The timing is really impeccable. It went from a fully functionally daily driver watch since to not staying powered on for more than 20 minutes. It may just need a battery - which I will try but this is all very suspicious.

Very Google like tactics and timing I find it odd the the Style still doesn't have it yet. Shouldn't it have been one of the very first ones to receive it when it's sibling the Sport did?

Aww man, no OG Huawei Watch Other than that, the body itself has no dings or scratches even after banging against everything possible. Hell, the damn thing doesn't even lag at all and I still get about 32 hours of battery out of it with the screen always on!

I have a hard time believing that it can't take the Oreo update but I'm sure they just want me to buy a new watch. Thought about the LG Watch Sport but ughhh, that non-replaceable band is kinda ugly.

Then I will have reached maximum nerdy-ness lol. Update working devices in to buggy POS, release an OS version that runs well, refuses to update the old devices. Please make them to release kernel source code so that other developers make asop or other custom Roms for devices like misfit and all.

I thought android wear has no skins, so why are manufacturers still slow to update????? I'm still wearing my Sony Smartwatch 3. It still tells the time, I still get notifications and I can still use apps.

I still get 2 day battery life, the only thing I'd like to be able to do is Android Pay, but I'm not going to but a new watch just for that. I stopped caring when I found out the G watch R wasn't getting it.

I love my watch but sadly, it will probably be my last one. I really wanted a g-shock style plastic watch that I cold abuse and it seems everybody went the other way and made shiny metal delicate watches instead.

The Q Explorist has been upgraded since at leadt January 1st. I've had it since then got it just after Christmas on 8. When are google going to make Android Pay work again on our watches. It appears that the Fossil Q Explorist has already been updated to 8.

At least that's what my Fossil Q Explorist lists It was a bit confusing at first though whether it was a Play Services thing or not, but I checked just now and I do have 8. Yesterday Sunday my family was day-tripping the Bay Area and we stopped by the Google complex in Mountain View to see the Android sculptures.

We've done this before, so it wasn't too terribly difficult to find them. If it's your first time going—Good luck, as they're rather hidden in a bizarre complex of generic two-story office buildings.

One of the office buildings has finally been converted into a merch store, full of cheap Google and Android-branded junk. They've more recently added some actual hardware Chromecasts for purchase.

But not on Sunday. Or Saturday, for that matter, because the space is closed on weekends. We just milled about in the dirt, snapping pics of the Android statues that are a bit worse for the wear Side Note: A few years ago the artist put out a call for assistance, and I helped re-vamp some statues with a fresh coat of paint.

This needs to be done again. Oh well, it isn't as if I'd purchase an Android-Wear watch anyway. I've never seen one, in person, that I'd want on my wrist.

Contrast that with our trip to the Apple Park Visitor Center in Cupertino, which we decided to check out for the first time. This sparkling structure was wide-open to the public, with a massive augmented reality map that visitors can interact with through the iPads that staff provide.

The opposite end of the structure has a cafe where we sipped cappuccino and hot cocoa while watching a pair of high school students work on their math homework.

Between was the Apple store, which included leather-bound balls and blocks that can configured for seating—the kids LOVED these things. I gotta tell you, those Apple Watches are very intriguing.

If I were an "Apple person," I'd most certainly purchase one possibly even the Hermes version. This contrast in experiences sums up, almost perfectly, the feelings I've had as a Google customer over the years.

They just don't care about us the way Apple cares about their customers. Took a screenshot and everything, but completely forgot to send it to you guys.

It's back] Free alert: New options too] Speedtest v4. Let the crying begin. My OG Huawei Watch will finally be put down. And I just got mine AW is still being updated. Just the underlying OS isn't There's not much that can be added to it based on hardware.

Gonna keep this G Watch R til it dies. The best smartwatch OS. I don't think so, mate. Just read the comments. Least I won't be as hurt if xiaomi decides to drop support for it in a couple of years.

If anything, I'll go for Tizen like others have mentioned. I'm hoping that my usb cover doesn't fall off because I like the watch too much. Still got my OG Moto after battery replacement.

If you don't want to throw the thing away, I'd say it's worth it. It's still getting updates, just not updates to the underlying Android system. But that means it won't get notification channels and stuff, right?

Got it custom from Moto Maker. Got it on my LG Watch Sport. Waiting for it on my Huatch 2. As I reply from a ThinkPad T from And you're pasting this everywhere? I have the OG Huawei Watch too.

I wonder if project treble comes to Android Wear too? Treble is just a trouble. Google loves fragmentation for some reason. Wear needs Treble too. Mine are Snapdragon s.

Meanwhile the original Apple Watch will probably be supported for another 5 years if not more. Gear S3 Classic is already in the mail. The original Huawei Watch isn't listed.

Has this bullshit already hit EOL? Apple Watch from over 2 years ago just got latest update. This is why Android goes to shit. And apple IS shit. Yet, Apple Watch users are still wearing theirs.

Android Wear users throw theirs in trash. Mine would be, if my band hadn't broken I am also very disappointed. Yeah I hear Wear is going places! Apple Watch is dead. Yeah keep telling your deluded self that!

Of course my Moto 2nd gen isn't on the list. RIP for our watch. Hope the updates nothing like the pixel line updates lmao. Still waiting on my LG Watch Sport update Funny folks are blaming Google, and not the OEMs for not supporting their own devices.

Thanks for this post! So which should I get? Moto 2nd Gen RIP. Now available on Android Wear. Been reading the comments and posting replies on one or two but I'll re-iterate. RIP original Huawei Watch.

It's the same game everytime Google releases a new version of Android. The only way to win is not to play. Motorola can suck it. Done with them as a company. Only Huawei and Samsung are making good Android watches.

Yeah, but Huawei are NOT supporting their older watches either. Samsung makes Tizen watches. Dropping the only year old ZenWatch 3 from new Android versions. I don't get this, either.

I'm not sure why it's hard to see what the market wants here. I'm patiently waiting for my update. Damn, bummed that the OG Huawei watch got dropped. Not a single Samsung Smart Watch Do yourself a favor and delete this comment, quickly.

No huwaei W1 shame. I am guessing my faithful moto is going to the wayside soon? Has anyone made an infinite zoom GIF on the Androids watch face yet? This means that user preferences do not need to be re-configured on each visit.

Compare No more than three products. The current 'standard' for slo-mo video is p at fps, although Apple has again pushed the boundary by supporting full HD p video at fps in the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X.

As resolutions and frame rates rise, image stabilisation -- optical OIS or electronic EIS -- becomes ever more important for video recording. It's noticeably absent from Motorola's Moto Z2 Force, for example.

As flagship smartphones pack in faster processors, more memory, larger and higher-resolution screens, and ever more functions, so the toll on the handset's battery increases. There are multiple trade-offs here: Get it wrong and a vendor can have a Galaxy Note 7-style debacle on its hands.

The maximum capacity for smartphone batteries is currently around 4,mAh, while 14 of the 26 handsets charted here have battery capacities between 3, and 4,mAh. Note that the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus have slightly lower-capacity batteries than their 7 and 7 Plus predecessors, despite offering the same claimed battery life -- testament to the increased power efficiency of the new A11 Bionic chipset.

The iPhone X's battery, as confirmed by teardown analysis, is a dual-cell 2,mAh unit -- slightly larger than the iPhone 8 Plus 2,mAh, but smaller than the iPhone 7 Plus 2,mAh.

A bigger battery obviously means longer battery life, as the chart below clearly shows. But given that design and safety constraints preclude the shoehorning of big batteries into tight-fitting cases, manufacturers also need to make it as convenient as possible for users -- especially 'power' users who subject their devices to heavy workloads -- to recharge their handsets.

Following LG's decision to drop the removable battery when updating the V20 to the V30, this feature is now absent from all of the top-end smartphones covered here. High-end smartphones are never going to be cheap, but Apple's newly launched iPhone X has broken new ground -- the combination of Apple's historically high margins and a significant amount of new technology have seen to that.

Here are the list prices in US dollars for most of the premium handsets covered in this feature:. The following handsets are not officially available in the US: Where available, prices for entry-level and top-end configurations are shown.

Apart from the escalating prices of the market leaders' flagship handsets, the most notable feature of this chart is the vendor propping it up: OnePlus, whose recent 5T handset, if you peruse the preceding graphs, clearly offers superb value for money.

Recent launches from Samsung, Apple, Google and Huawei have highlighted the increasing importance of artificial intelligence and augmented reality in high-end smartphones, with the underlying chipsets and developer resources evolving appropriately.

At least for now, the smartphone will remain the portable hub for your digital life, and the flow of new devices will continue apace. We aim to keep this roundup updated as new products, specification details and benchmarks appear.

An IP rating of 5 for dust means the device is merely 'dust protected', while 7 for water means it can withstand immersion in up to 1m for 30 minutes and 4 means it can resist 'splashing water' for at least 10 minutes.

Although Huawei's new Mate 10 Pro has an IP67 rating, no such accolade is awarded to its Mate 10 sibling which, perhaps significantly, has a 3. Dust resistance and waterproofing to at least IP67 is now becoming the 'standard' for flagship smartphones, leaving the Nokia 8 out on a limb at IP54 and unrated devices missing a key feature.

A flagship smartphone should do its job -- launching, running and switching between apps, and displaying on-screen content -- quickly and smoothly, without any delays or glitches that would mar the user experience.

It shouldn't become uncomfortably hot in operation either -- or, of course, burst into flames. Until Apple's September iPhone launch, the top-performing chipset -- on these measures at any rate -- was the Qualcomm Snapdragon, with Gb4 and ISU scores of up to and respectively.

Apple's A10 Fusion-powered iPhone 7 and 7 Plus were strong performers, with scores of around Gb4 and ISU, but the new A11 Bionic-powered iPhones have reshaped the smartphone performance landscape.

At the launch, Apple claimed that the A11 Bionic's two performance CPU cores are 25 percent faster than the A10, while its four high-efficiency cores are 70 percent faster.

Apple's 2nd-generation performance controller is reportedly 70 percent faster for multithreaded workloads, while the A11's GPU is 30 percent faster and delivers Alevel performance at half the power, according to Apple.

LG's Snapdragon powered G6 is now well behind the curve, and will be updated before long. Apple has always fitted less RAM in its iPhones than the Android competition, and that hasn't changed with its handsets: As far as internal storage is concerned, Apple's iPhones stand out with their maximum complement of GB -- a feature that betrays the company's disdain for external storage expansion via a MicroSD card slot.

Samsung's Galaxy Note 8 also offers a maximum of GB in some territories, but has a MicroSD card slot too, making it the top choice for the data-hungry. The most common maximum internal storage complement is GB, which is offered by 13 of the 26 smartphones covered here.

BlackBerry's recent Motion handset is an outlier, offering just 32GB of storage. Cameras have become a key battleground for smartphone makers, and several approaches are currently on view among the flagship population.

Although it wasn't the first to do so, Apple kick-started a trend last year by offering dual rear cameras on the iPhone 7 Plus: As well as adding telephoto capability, Apple's dual-camera system allowed depth information to be calculated, enabling features like bokeh -- sharp foreground and blurred background -- to be supported that were previously the province of expensive digital SLR cameras with high-end optics.

Apple's dual-camera phones, the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X, remain at 12MP but the sensors are bigger, faster and deliver better low-light performance, according to Apple.

Apple also takes advantage of A11 Bionic chip's machine-learning optimisation and custom ISP to deliver a beta portrait-mode feature called Portrait Lighting: For the 14 dual-camera handsets, the top bar is the primary wide angle or colour camera, while the bottom bar is the secondary telephoto or black-and-white camera.

Both Motorola and Nokia take the Huawei approach, with colour and monochrome cameras: Samsung also introduces a couple of neat dual-camera features: Live Focus lets you adjust the bokeh effect pre - and post-capture, while Dual Capture simultaneously captures photos from both the wide-angle and telephoto cameras.

The main aim, according to OnePlus, was to improve low-light performance. Google is the leading exponent of the single rear camera, with its Pixel and Pixel XL handsets receiving excellent reviews.

The rear cameras on the new Pixel 2 and 2 XL have improved further -- gaining a best-in-class score of 98 from DxOMark, for example. Key to this camera performance is a Combined with machine-learning algorithms that can distinguish subjects, such as faces, from the background, this allows a single camera to deliver bokeh effects that rival or surpass those from two-camera designs.

The fashion for 'selfies' and authentication via face recognition means that front-facing cameras, once something of an afterthought with a nod to video calls, have seen significant recent evolution.

To analyse your physiognomy, the flood illuminator detects your face, the infrared camera takes an IR image, and the dot projector places than 30, IR dots on your face. These data are fed into a neural network in the A11 Bionic chip to create a mathematical model of your face, which is then checked against the stored model on the handset -- all in real time.

The True Depth camera also enables portrait-mode selfies with Portrait Lighting, and animated emoji called 'Animoji'. Not to be outdone, Google's new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL can also take bokeh-style selfies, thanks to the use of face-identifying ML algorithms.

The front camera's 8MP sensor does not create a depth map like its Here are the front camera megapixel counts for the 26 handsets under consideration, 14 of which are 8MP units:.

Video capture is becoming an increasingly important smartphone camera feature -- witness the fact that all bar one of the handsets covered here can record 4K p video with at least a frame rate of 30fps.

The exception is HP's Elite x3, which doesn't support 4K video capture at any frame rate. Apple's new iPhones recently upped the ante by supporting 4K video at 60fps, which will doubtless kick off another round of feature catch-up.

Slow-motion video is another popular feature, and Sony's Xperia XZ Premium leads the field here, supporting HD p video capture at a startling 'super-slo-mo' fps.

This is why Android Wear will die a sad lonely death. OS updates, whether on phone or wearable, don't mean nearly as much for Android as they do for Apple. Android is heavily modularized, so most aspects of the software still get updated regardless of what version of the OS a device is on.

The only stuff that outright needs an OS update are little things that really only hardcore Android fans will even notice for the most part, since practically none of them are really big flagship user-facing features.

On Apple devices, however, basically everything requires an OS update, so a device not receiving OS updates really does mean it is no longer getting any new features. That's all well and good when using a mature version of Android on a phone.

Android Wear, on the other hand, is - at best - in its Eclair period of development. I think Android Wear 2. And again, this wasn't supposed to be an issue with Android Wear. The two aren't really the same thing.

It's not like Google is actually adding anything with Android Wear update in the future anyway. I doubt we'll see much of anything new with Android Wear in the future.

Google clearly has their focus in other areas. Never had Android before. Like a race car, kind of buggy but I like it. Pretty Interesting hearing you guys. Apple's hardware might get updates longer than Android but the phones brick from going useless from said updates.

When I heard Apple say they removed the din port because of courage and then did their shenanigans with cost and not included essential accessory. Cant deny the fluidity and ecosystem is slick.

The apple watch sucks imho. I want the LG sport watch, sounds well equipped but seems wearables have a way to go till any of them are significant. Any comments on that watch? And with no good reason.

Hasn't the hardware been the same since launch with the exception of the new side buttons or LTE on some watches. This is just planned obsolescence for no reason. They are watches not phones, they should be supported longer.

I guess my G watch R will be my last one. Apart from cool watch faces and notifications, there is not much reason for it. I've made this suggestion to another poster regarding their Asus Zen Watch 3.

Google has completely failed their original promise for Android Wear. At this point I hope it fails as a platform so they can actually learn something. No Asus watches are getting it? Not even the ZW3?

Which came out only like a year ago? Further reinforces why I will never buy another of their products. I'm upgrading to a Misfit Vapor. Good timing and it seems to be exactly what I want coming from the Moto v2 especially 50m water resistance!

Not a good look el goog. You really oughta do whatever it takes to make sure this doesn't happen. I can't buy another one if they get dropped this fast. Would Project Treble help with this?

And since OEMs don't customize Wear I assume Treble would be part of Oreo Android Wear, but I'm not sure if Google will update the existing watches or if that would help with updates at all. No, that is unlikely, especially for existing models.

Treble requires repartitioning, which is why OnePlus isn't doing it on existing devices due to the risk of bricking. If they are worried about phones being able to do it successfully, I don't imagine any OEM is going to try it on a watch.

One Plus made a comment recently they wouldn't upgrade their current devices as messing with the partitions needed to add Treble could potentially brick phones. I would imagine watches would have a similar issue.

I just bought a ZW3 and it's already dropped from support? You have to be kidding me It's still being supported with Android Wear updates, the underlying Android system just won't be updated to Oreo.

But the value isn't there now: The Ticwatch E has more features and is cheaper. I was buying a brand name and look and now it's even more worthless than the other device I wonder if I should try to return it to Amazon Which would be fine if AW 2.

Was hoping Oreo might undo that. Luckily I can cancel my pending Zenwatch 3 order. Shame on Asus for letting me down but I am not surprised, they were unhappy with sales. Wow I've never heard of any of these watches.

Who is buying a MontBlanc or Louis Vuitton smartwatches? Wear is supposed to bypass OEMs for software. This was the great promise by google to avoid fragmentation seen on Android. The upgrade to 2.

Why is nobody making a legitimately good Android Wear watch that doesn't cost obscene amounts of money? You can either install in dual-boot or replacement OS completely. I agree with your comment about a good AW and I'd toss in Tizen myself not costing an obscene amount of money.

I really don't want an under-supported underground OS, though. I appreciate what it is and what it does, but I wanted Android Wear specifically. I've been doing a personal list with some smartwatches I'm waiting for some small smartwatch or something like that to try in the future.

Wow, I think that the biggest slap in the face here is to the owners of the Zenwatch 3 with Asus just giving their recently paying customers a great big FU. Not making things better while also not letting others do that!

I've had enough, not buying any AW anymore! So some of the dropped watches, like Asus Zenwatch 3, have exactly he same specs as other supported watches and is still not getting the updates.

I think that is on Asus, who reportedly have pulled their support for AW going forward. I pulled support of Asus. I'm voting with my wallet, and the list of OEM's that aren't selling me stuff is getting longer by the year.

Let me respectfully ask, why ask this on a forum and wait for an answer when you can just Google it? Happy to see my Huawei Watch 2 getting the update. I have been fairly satisfied with the device although I do believe Android Wear has a lot of room for improvement.

I like being able to control chromecast content from my wrist or responding to SMS and Allo messages on the fly. I would just like to see a device that's slimmer without losing features. There should be a way to view my heart rate data that was gathered from my Android Wear device in Google Fit.

Sleep tracking is something else they should add. I'm not a fan of the Sleep as Android app that do many users have recommended. Always knew this day would arrive for my urbane watch, just never knew how long I be getting major updates for.

Would have been awesome to have gotten 8. The landscape for Android Wear devices keeps becoming increasingly inexcusable and pathetic. It's seriously not hard to make a good smartwatch, folks: Give it a bright display for sunlight viewing Step 3: Give it removable bands for people to be able to easily change to fit their style Step 4: I agree, I had the same requirements with the added desire to include a GPS too, which led me to the Huawei Watch 2 Classic which was the only one I could find with all of those but not the optional LTE.

We'll see if it gets updated for years, though What about the Verizon Wear24? Ha, I'm just kidding, there's no way it's getting an update. We should make a petition to at least try to change this.

Android Wear isn't selling well and, while this is an incentive for people to buy another watch, it makes people unsure most are running away from it for that reason.

Many similar-specced watches are becoming obsolete just because their not new enough! Also, has anybody found a fix for the notifications not appearing on AW watches?

I got mine yesterday and am outdated in the discussion. Me when I saw the Watch Urbane 2 didn't make the cut Unfortunately, the two year old Tag Heuer Connected is missing on the lists. That's a shame for such a product.

Hate all these black sports styles. Not Oreo but I'm surprised it's still getting any love. I may have to dust that puppy off, update it and see if AW is still the same piece of crap it's always been.

Still rocking the GWR. It works fine with any built in watch face. It's does get wonky if you are running Watchmaker, but some others do work. Someone needs to write the article how Google is not only letting AW go to crap, but the shear lack of support by developers that reduces the watch really to a glorified notifier relay which is fine by me, just don't market it other than that.

Guess I have to reevaluate my opinion? Ouch, that's going to hurt. You can enable Android Pay, but within a few hours it gets automatically disabled. My LG G Watch R is finally "crapping" out just on the heals of this update - which lo' and behold does not include the R The timing is really impeccable.

Got the update on my Vapor about two weeks ago.

Made a bunch of the icons look like eyesores. The Fossil Q Explorist received it yesterday. At least mine did. Available now for the Misfit Vapor https: Huawei Watch 2 https: Any idea how I can force an update or must I just wait?
