My wife has a Moto G4 Plus with the fabled unicorn caressed 'fast charge' you speak of and she still has to plug it in every night. Yeap it charges faster, drains way faster too and cost more.

Easy way to tell if you have mido or nikel is in settings - about phone - CPU, if it says "octacore" then it is mido. If it says "decacore" then it is nikel. No exceptions to this. It maybe no biggy for you, but I have a phone with only mah and lasts 2 days charge, and there is no panic for me with charging as there are 2 USB C chargers, one at home one in the car and nobody I know doesnt have USB C on there notebook.

And it still charges on USB so there is nothing to fret about even at worst case scenario, but who wouldnt want to be in and out within 40 minutes not 2 hours 30 in a rush. Otherwise its the same scenario as most normal people, you put it on the charge on your 2nights sleep.

Got a USB 3 port on my laptop haven't ever used it for that function. Every USB device I own is still a 2. Just haven't needed to replace anything to upgrade to USB 3 devices.

Something either isn't playing nice with my phone or the last update really killed it. It's doing things all by itself. When I click a notification from the drop down bar, it does nothing, just makes the notification disappear, the keyboard keeps switching back and forth between gboard and swiftkey even though I've set it to swiftkey, the themes within the keyboard all change by themselves whenever they feel like it, apps just shut down for no reason, when I click on things they don't open, it's driving me crazy.

I'm going to have to factory reset I guess. OK, can confirm that the issue of me now not being able to send MMS's to just one of my contacts is an issue with my Redmi Note 4, and not my provider I tested sending one using my sim in another phone and it worked fine.

Only took a couple of weeks. It is asking for Region in the setup. Australia is not listed nor is NZ. Does that get downloaded automatically to the phone as an update? The China ROMs will never have it of course.

It then gets OTA updates every week. I use this on both my Note 4 and 4x with no issues at all. Bear in mind too, that despite saying the product is in Australia, the delivery times hint at the fact that they're actually sent from overseas not always but frequently.

I have never heard of the other seller. They do state though that an extra fee will be charged for remote area and despite living in suburbia of a large town I am classed as remote which also suggests courier from overseas.

Neither state the roms but I believe they probably run international I think I messaged wil before I got mine which is fine for here. The warranty they offer is probably as dubious as overseas.

The phone is fine but the lack of app drawer is really a minus for me. Though I'm starting to think maybe I put all the apps of the left of the home screen and use that like the app drawer, with the right side for widgets and apps I use most often: And as far as launchers go, its very much personally preference.

Very light eight, fast and has an app drawer with customisable rows, columns and icon size. In other words it has everything I need and nothing I dont use. You could group Apps into Folders.

If you like stock there's the google now launcher too but I never loved it. Updating my 4X SD to V8. It looks like it's bug fixes more than anything else. It's a MB download on my device. Back up and running.

It seems the Android security patch has been bumped to the August patch which is good to see. The rest of the changes are also under the hood from what I can see. Seems with the MIUI 8. That's one thing that I never had an issue with the 4X: It's by far the longest lasting phone I've ever had.

My Goldway one is rubbish. You fart near it and the adapter falls out. Cut charge time by around a quarter down to 2 or so hours. As for new versions of Android they don't matter. We have Nougat but the only thing that came over were the emojis which arguably are just as important; nice not to have those empty crossed boxes.

There is no split screen multitasking and I doubt the advanced doze bits made it across — MIUI has its own power management. More important to have the security updates properly patched in. Note 4 or note 4x is irrelevant here. A quick way to tell for sure: No exceptions to this rule. There seems to be a few ways to flash, which is recommend? Generally, if you are only updating the existing ROM, use the inbuilt updater app.

It is safer as it will not install incompatible software. The bootloader does not need to be unlocked for this. Not used for major updates usually or for going backwards if required.

Not used for installing custom ROMs. This method is riskier as it can flash incompatible software and "brick" your phone. However, it is the only way to install custom ROMs reliably. Are there any issues with connectivity?

Solid signal and data speeds and excellent call quality. This is fairly common to all low to mid range grey imports like this. Only matters if you really want or need 4G data rates everywhere.

Mostly matters in rural or regional areas. Also helps with building penetration in the cities. So, if your life depends on reliable 4G data everywhere, best get something else. Unfortunately, both versions are sold as either Note 4 or Note 4X, depending on the market.

The MTK version is much faster and on 20nm process. Therefore, ultimate battery life or SOT is not it's forte. I still get two or three days with 3 hours or so of SOT between charges usually, so not bad in class at all.

The original MTK version has much nicer build quality as well. Very happy with it. The SD version is on 14nm and was designed for excellent battery life, albeit with mediocre performance.

It is still more than adequate for normal daily use for most people. Qualcomm SOC means enthusiast community support is greater. Ongoing support pretty much guaranteed. Official rom is already on Nougat base and may get Oreo apparently.

Already has many custom roms available. Other than that, all versions have roughly the same features etc. Differences in supported radio bands have no effect on use in Aus.

They all support all Aus telco bands, except b28 of course. The cameras are much the same. I don't like that they open the box to install the global rom for you, just though reflash would be safest.

I'm still not sure what they do or how they do it. I guess I could do a hard reset and wipe data. Seems like a pain to get the bootloader unlocked. You can request for them to leave the box unopened and ship it with the Chinese ROM if you wish and then flash it yourself.

Coming from an Iphone 6 plus I will certainly appreciate the better battery life. Mentioned a page back ; I've noticed better battery standby with this update in the couple of days that I've had it, anyone else?

Will it be alright for me to update and will if effect anything on my phone due to it being rooted? Yes you can and should update for the security patch alone. SSU will usually need reinstalling.

The worst it can do is re-write the boot partition. This will mean reinstalling TWRP at worst. Won't boot with TWRP installed. Not rooted here any more, not found any real need now, MIUI works pretty good for me and I got sick of redoing it all every week with the developer beta rom updates.

Come with Google full service as well? The note 4x I purchased through shopmonk has the global ROM with functional google services. Can't wait for my 4x to arrive, look like a killer phone for the money.

I am very curious to see how this phone performs, I may even buy a higher end Xiaomi at some point if this experience is good. If all the reviews and what you guys in this thread have said, should be an awesome phone and I can't wait to get it.

The battery life will be one thing I look forward too, as I have an Iphone 6 plus, it has become very laggy and battery life is terrible, made worse by IOS So I can't wait to get the 4x.

Picked up a rugged dual layer case like this. It's a little chunky like an otter box case. Giving a solid feel with protected corners. A lot more protection and grip than the slim gel case I started with.

Also tried a leather flip case but now like the rugged dual layer one the best. I was looking at this smart wake-up case for my Note 4X: Nothing like shown in the above page: Does it mean that this case is only for the Chinese ROM?

Just checked, mine is on 8. I picked as a region Hong-Kong, should I get an update over the air? What region did you choose? All the lower memory 4x are SD I couldnt find anywhere in the description whether its a global rom.

I would check with the seller on that one. It is most certainly a Helio x20 or Nikel, so current China model, so may have a China rom. For the average user, I can't stress enough how superior the Snapdragon version is.

My MTK version has only a slightly above average battery life and is still running Android 6 as there has been no update to Android 7. It shows up in the File explorer but when I click on it, it does not display any content.

Any attempt to copy something results in denied access. Do I need to install some application to get access to the phone content via USB? On your phone, when you connect, slide it down from the top and it will show a message No need to install any junk with this phone.

It had no software details on the site either. Being a Snapdragon processor model it updated immediately to the latest MIUI and Android 7 the first time it connected to wifi. I believe non globals or dodgy roms will not do this?

Someone correct me if I am wrong. If yours is the mediateck processor then it does not have the android update yet. Shopmonk's stuff is good. They just lack a little when it comes to product descriptions.

Ours took only 3 days for delivery. My note 4x global ROM 8. I turned it off as it was causing problems with something, cant remeber exactly. I did see others had the same symptom and disabling that feature fixed it with theirs also.

They really didn't do a lot the first 5 days or so but when things got moving it was a quick process to actually ship and deliver. I'd recommend them again to be honest, packaging was perfect and everything was spot on with the ROM I asked for etc I don't want to brick it.

However, my nikel is an original note 4 not 4x, therefore has the vastly superior build quality, it is not even in the same league really. I don't doubt that xiaomi make more money out of the cheaper built SD version.

The MTK is noticably snappier as well. Regardless of what the web says, the difference in speed IS noticeable in normal use. Only slightly hey, compared to what? Of course it completely depends on usage, but mine easily lasts days between charges with hours SOT.

Our SD 4x is definitely better, but not by much, if you actually use it. It will come eventually, they are still selling them today, so will need to move to N soon or stop selling them. If you didn't know, you would not pick it as android at all, at first glance.

I run the global developer or the EU based on China developer roms on ours. MIUI 9 is basically the same on either android version, pretty much. There are some cosmetic things, but really the split screen is the only real feature difference I've noticed so far.

The MTK gets security patches, bug fixes etc. Weekly on the developer rom. If anything, the nikel has had better battery life with almost every update recently, whilst the mido has gone backward of late and the weekly update is currently suspended due to issues.

Anyway the mido is definitely the way to go if you value battery life above everything else, no argument. There will also be more custom rom support, if you insist on plain android etc, this one is a better choice.

I believe there is an Oreo release already available. The nikel is by no means a bad device and punches well above its weight performance wise, in its price range.

The note 4 nikel is built really nicely as well, if you value this, I do. It has some patchy custom rom support. There are a few nice custom versions of MIUI as well. Seems strange that it hasn't offered it via OTA already.

Have you checked manually using the inbuilt updater app? Or is it currently on a China rom? Not to update the same type of rom, i. You should also be able to manually download and install the global developer rom MIUI 9 using the updater app, without unlocking the bootloader.

Going from China stable to global stable may require flashing via pc. Should only need the usb that came with it. Even to clean flash the same or a completely different rom using a pc.

Bootloader needs to be unlocked for this. It is currently on Global 8. I set the region as Hong Kong tried Indonesia too and no updates available. What region should I choose?

It is the phone for my wife, so I better upgrade to stable 8.
